AI in the Sky: Drone-Based Wildfire Detection and Prevention In-Person / Online
Climate change has intensified wildfire frequency and severity across British Columbia. This session explores how AI-powered drones are transforming wildfire management through prediction, real-time detection, and post-fire assessment. The talk includes a live demonstration of the SkyScout wildfire monitoring dashboard.
Presenter: Dr. Michal Aibin is the Program Head of the M.Sc. in Applied Computing at BCIT, where his research focuses on AI, computer vision, and drone-based systems for disaster resilience. His work has been featured on Global BC and in IEEE, MDPI, and other peer-reviewed venues.
This event is in-person in Town Square C and online via Teams.
A light lunch will be provided at the in-person event.
