Artificial? Naturally! A Brief Incursion into the Politics of Nature and Digitisation In-Person / Online
This talk centres around the recent volume "Climate Change in the Age of Artificial Intelligence", calling into question the AI-centric view, and discussing it as a specific historical and cultural emergence, rather than a neutral technological advancement. It thus proposes a slightly different perspective on how we approach the ardent questions of our times that paradoxically link climate change, AI, and our culturally-shaped views on what "nature" means.
Presenter:
Alexandru (Alec) Balasescu is an applied anthropologist, teaching at Royal Roads University in Victoria and working with Rewilding Europe organisation in a project based in Danube Delta, in his native Romania. He received his PhD at the University of California, Irvine, and his most recent book, "Climate Change in the Age of Artificial Intelligence" appeared in 2025 at Springer Nature publisher.
This presentation will be in person, Town Square D, and online via Teams.
