Discover Adaptive Learning in the Learning Hub using LeaP In-Person / Online
This is a hybrid event - please see the Loop for Teams link. LeaP stands for Learning Paths. It is a Learning Hub adaptive learning program that creates custom learning paths for students based on their performance on tests. This presentation provides a brief overview to LeaP covering the following topics:
-
Adaptive learning
-
LeaP creation and functionality
-
LeaP use cases
-
LeaP limitations
-
Courses that work best with LeaP
-
LeaP course access
LeaP provides several benefits to students and instructors:
Students:
-
Learning paths are tailored to each students’ unique learning needs.
-
Students learn at their own pace.
-
Once former concepts are mastered, LeaP can present only new material covering the next concept/topic making learning more efficient.
-
Alternative content is used to help explain concepts.
-
Suggested learning resources are provided where gaps in learning exist.
Instructors:
-
Track and focus on students struggling or who have incomplete work.
-
Discover the concepts that are misunderstood by the class and then re-teach them.
Note: This presentation does not involve the detailed steps in creating a LeaP. A “Discover” course (myTools, Discover) in the Learning Hub has been created for this purpose.
Presented by Hugh Soulis.
Hugh Soulis has worked in the education field for over two decades primarily supporting instructors and English Language Learners (ELL) in Higher Education in the capacities of a Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Support Specialist and CALL Coordinator. CALL addresses the educational technology skills and knowledge that supports learning a language (in this case, English). Hugh has also been a computer instructor and currently is a Learning Technology Specialist in the Educational Technology Services (ETS) area of the Learning & Teaching Centre.
