Inside and Outside Classroom Peer Review In-Person
This event will be in person (Summit Centre) and via MS Teams.
This presentation discusses the use of peer review to promote formative assessment (assessment for learning), summative assessment (assessment of learning), self-reflection, critical thinking, and active learning. It provides an overview of:
- the peer review terminology (peer editing, peer feedback, and formative peer assessment)
- the relationship between peer review, self-assessment, and reflection.
- why peer review should be used both inside and outside the classroom
- peer review formats and tools
Based on research and actual classroom experiences, and in line with BCIT’s strategic commitment of applied education, the presentation offers educators:
- a hands-on peer review multi-stage process ready for classroom application
- clear peer review steps to put each stage into practice
- essential tools necessary to conduct peer reviews
Depending on the participants, we may do a practice activity to experience peer review and self-reflection inside the classroom in a subsequent food for thought session.
