SUMMARY:Guichon Creek Restoration and Renewal
DESCRIPTION:Guichon Creek runs through the heart of BCIT’s Burnaby
Campus. Over the last thirty years the southern section of the creek has
been extensively restored creating a fascinating mix of riverside habitats
that are ideal for wildlife. The northern part of campus the creek still
runs underground in a culvert. Over the last few months BCIT has completed
the daylighting of a new section of the creek that will be navigable by
salmon for the first time. BCIT eventually plans to daylight as much of the
creek as possible on campus. Join Adam Dickinson BCIT’s Manager
–Transportation\, Landscape and Grounds to explore the variety of
habitats along Guichon Creek and to meet Joe Cosh BCIT’s Director –
Facilities Improvements to find out more about the latest daylighting
project. We’ll also have a chance to see some of the plants and animals
that call campus home. \n\nThe meet up point for the start of this tour
will be the Student Plaza outside of NW-4 (The Health Sciences Centre) at
BCIT.\n\nNote: Please note that this will be an outdoor event\, which will
include a walk of around 2km. This will be on well managed gravel paths\,
but please come prepared. If you have accessibility needs and would like to
be part of the event\, please let us know and we will do our very best to
 accommodate you.\n\n \n\nAdam Dickinson\, Manager –Transportation\,
Landscape and Grounds\, BCIT Adam has been leading BCIT’s Landscape and
Grounds portfolio for the last 7 years. Adam’s passion for horticulture
and sustainability have led to the introduction of BCIT’s first Invasive
Species Management Plan\, BeeCIT pollinator programming\, edible and
interactive gardens\, improved landscape standards and much more. Adam is a
red seal chef\, drummer and as always adding to his knowledge as a
horticulturalist.\n\n \n\nPresented as part of Connect Fest Burnaby.
