Guichon Creek Restoration and Renewal

Guichon Creek Restoration and Renewal In-Person

Guichon Creek runs through the heart of BCIT’s Burnaby Campus. Over the last thirty years the southern section of the creek has been extensively restored creating a fascinating mix of riverside habitats that are ideal for wildlife. The northern part of campus the creek still runs underground in a culvert. Over the last few months BCIT has completed the daylighting of a new section of the creek that will be navigable by salmon for the first time. BCIT eventually plans to daylight as much of the creek as possible on campus. Join Adam Dickinson BCIT’s Manager –Transportation, Landscape and Grounds to explore the variety of habitats along Guichon Creek and to meet Joe Cosh BCIT’s Director – Facilities Improvements to find out more about the latest daylighting project. We’ll also have a chance to see some of the plants and animals that call campus home.
The meet up point for the start of this tour will be the Student Plaza outside of NW-4 (The Health Sciences Centre) at BCIT.
Note: Please note that this will be an outdoor event, which will include a walk of around 2km. This will be on well managed gravel paths, but please come prepared. If you have accessibility needs and would like to be part of the event, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate you.
